An underground sprinkler system is the only way we know to keep a landscape green year-round, without spending hours in the sun dragging a hose around.

Interfaced with a timer, the system will automatically water on the day(s) and time(s) of your choosing.

A professional design without a professional's price.

We only charge a $100 design fee in order to take the time to design your custom underground and/or drip irrigation system – all we ask is that you buy the parts required to install the system at Sharecost! (You can also purchase the plan only for $500.)

In addition to supplying the custom design and all of the parts and fittings you'll need, we can also provide you with a variety of tools and supplies that can help with your installation, including hydraulic trenchers, mini-excavators, and jackhammers for removing stubborn hard-pan!

Our 3-step design program:

1: You bring us your plan.

A colourful, detailed landscape design plan.

Bring a scale drawing of your site into the store, carefully noting:

  • Checkmark  vegetation types (lawns, shrub beds)
  • Checkmark  changes in elevation
  • Checkmark  trees
  • Checkmark  structures (driveways, walls, paths)
  • Checkmark  the areas you want irrigated
  • Checkmark  location of water supply line*
  • Checkmark  diameter of water supply line*
  • Checkmark  water pressure available*
  • Checkmark  underground utilities*

To help you start plotting your yard, we've provided some ready-to-use Graph Paper, with 1 centimeter grid lines. Click the link to download the PDF file, then print out as much as you need.

* The engineering department (City of Nanaimo) has the original plans for you home if you do not know where the water line enters your house.

A note about water supply. We highly recommend that you pay a plumber to tap into your potable water line with a specially designed connection and build your system up to, and including a double-backflow preventer. This is the only truly difficult part of the install, and it is worth paying a professional to do this. While the plumber is there, get them to determine the water pressure and diameter of your water supply line. These two values are critical for us to properly design your irrigation system.

Contact your utility service providers for a diagram of where gas lines, electrical lines, etc., are buried on your site to avoid danger while digging.

2: We'll design your system.

Next we'll take the scale plan of your yard and design an irrigation system to maximize water use efficiency while at the same time working to minimize the cost of the installation.

When we design your system, we take a range of variables into account, including water pressure, elevation changes, spray-head water volumes, and the need to winterize the system to prepare for winter freezes.

This helps to ensure your system will remain within the tolerances for minimum and maximum pressures, ensuring the spray heads work properly for years to come.

3: You install your system.

Finally, you take our plan and install your system.

We do all of this for a $100 design fee when you buy your entire system from Sharecost. Alternatively, you can purchase the plan ONLY for $500.00.
