Daryl Stech

• Owner

Daryl and his business partner Ray Sabourin bought Sharecost in 1997. The business has grown every year since. With this success, customers are benefiting from continually expanded product lines and services available. Daryl is now set to retire from the daily activities here at the shop but will continue to play an integral role behind the scenes with future business decisions.

David Stech

• Manager, Sales & Operations

Dave recently completed the Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute certified installer program. Take advantage of the products, equipment, and practical know-how that Dave has with building hardscape: patios, pathways, driveways, and garden retaining walls. In helping you get on with your day, if he hasn't got the answer, he'll do his best to find someone that does. With extensive knowledge in the daily operations at Sharecost, Dave has the responsibility of making sure every customer receives attentive, honest service.

Richard Terrick

• Manager, Marketing & Advertising

Richard rejoined the Sharecost Rentals & Sales management team in Spring of 2009 after a year and-a-half hiatus. He's our unofficial IT guy, is responsible for the design and maintenance of sharecost.ca, and holds a degree in Applied Graphic Design. Richard's usually found on the front counter, banging away at the day-to-day operations, but he's also been spotted hunched behind his Mac in the office, dreaming up our next advertising campaign. In addition to marketing and advertising, Richard is well-versed in our rentals and products, and especially likes playing in the irrigation section.

Vicky Dawes

• Sales & Customer Service

Born on Vancouver Island, Vicky is probably best described as a "Jill of many trades". From Chocolate maker, industrial first-aid attendant, interior design consultant, nanny, right through to customer-service specialist, Vicky has had a lot of experience dealing with people. A true do-it-yourself girl, Vicky relaxes by spending quality time at home and with friends, by working on her current house renovation project, or just by hanging out in her garden. At Sharecost, you can usually find Vicky helping customers wherever they can be found!

Brandie Culver

• Sales & Customer Service

Originally hailing from Alberta, Brandie moved to Nanaimo in 1986. Prior to arriving at Sharecost in the Spring of 2011, she accumulated 8 years of customer service experience at various businesses; you might recognize Brandie from James Grocery, where she worked for four years. She spent the next six years working for "free", caring for her two lovely children. When she's not helping customers at the main counter at Sharecost, Brandie can be found hanging out with her kids in the great outdoors, enjoying Vancouver Island's beaches, parks, campsites, and gardens.

Dianne McDonald

• Bookkeeping & Office Administration

Originally from Toronto, Dianne has extensive experience in Office Administration and Accounting. She has spent many years in the luxury home building industry in Ontario, in various accounting roles, and even ran her own Interior Design firm. Dianne is also a certified Sommelier, and with both culinary training and an event management background, she is looking forward to helping Colleen plan Sharecost's special events! When not crunching numbers at work, Dianne enjoys being domestic, hanging out with her husband, and playing with their Samoyed.

Colleen Stech

As co-owner with husband Daryl, Colleen takes an active interest in providing customers with a high level of customer service. With her background in business and customer service/communication training, she enjoys helping staff fulfill Sharecost's Service Commitment. Colleen has recently passed on many of her Marketing & Advertising duties to Richard, though you'll often find her behind-the-scenes organizing special events.

George Woodhouse

• Head Mechanic
• 30+ years small engine experience

George is clearly no rookie. George is the former owner and operator of the well-respected Woodhouse Supplies in Parksville, and also of Rugged Mountain Equipment & Marine in Port McNeil. Not one to keep still, George recently retired after spending the past 7 years as a paramedic, but he's back to work at Sharecost as our head mechanic. Born and raised on Vancouver Island, George has a varied history that even includes a stint as a race car driver ("back in the day"). After spending the past few years in British Columbia's Similkameen Valley, George has recently found himself back on Vancouver Island with his wife, a cat, and their two Jack Russell Terriers.

JR Wyllie

• Shop Mechanic
• Rental Equipment Service Technician

JR was born in Perth, Scotland, and moved to Nanaimo when he was just a wee lad of two, eventually joining the Sharecost team in August 2011 many years later. JR has always loved anything with a motor and wheels, and restored his first vehicle – a Mazda B2000 lowrider – when he was 14. JR’s hobbies include building custom rock crawlers, autocross cars, and even a 10-second drag car, so it’s no surprise that he’s been working as a mechanic for the past 7 years. He balances his “need for speed” with fishing, hunting, and camping, and when he’s not adding horsepower to small-blocks, JR keeps busy loving his three beautiful children.

Kent Klapstein

• Rental Equipment Service Technician

Kent relocated to balmy Nanaimo after years of frequent visits from Fort McMurray, Alberta. Working in the oil sands industry, he gained valuable experience overhauling and maintaining a vast array of heavy equipment in a very harsh environment. Kent also developed a strong appreciation for exceptional customer service while providing remote area support services as a pilot. A passionate DIY’er, working at Sharecost has allowed Kent to experience rental equipment from both sides of the counter.

Delivery Truck Drivers

Ken Rowe

• Delivery Truck Driver

Since retiring from the force Ken has enjoyed keeping busy at Sharecost, delivering sand & gravel, pavers & blocks, and heavy equipment such as our Kubota KX41 mini-excavators. He works hard to ensure deliveries are on time and placed as close as possible to where you want it. When Ken is not on the road he can be found here at the shop loading gravel and other landscape product into customer vehicles.

Steve Towle

• Delivery Truck Driver

Steve moved to Nanaimo from Powell River after a 20-year run working in the lumber yard for Powell River Building Supplies. Steve is a trained forklift operator and instructor as well as a customer service specialist, and is very keen to learn all aspects of the business at Sharecost. When he's not making sure deliveries arrive safely and on time, you can likely find Steve on the baseball diamond, trolling for trout, or enjoying a game of golf.

David Haines

• Delivery Truck Driver

After an 8-year stint in the oil patch during the 1980’s, David returned to the West Coast, where he took up logging. He spent 15 years as a log scaler before deciding to give up camp work and start spending his time in town. David now drives “the Big Truck” for Sharecost – our Volvo tandem and trailer – and enjoys every minute of it. When he’s not out on the road, David can be found out in the Sharecost yard, washing and polishing his “ride”.
